Dr. Ajoritsedere Awosika, Chairman of Access Bank Plc, has urged Nigeria to allow women to play an active role in pushing the country ahead, saying that leaving 50 percent of the population behind will result in negligible progress.
She mentioned this at the Vanguard Newspapers’ International Women’s Day Conference in Lagos, which is currently taking place.
When women account for roughly half of the population, Awosike believes it is nonsensical to ignore them in decision-making.
“Women currently account for 49.3 percent of Nigeria’s population. Is anyone going to argue that this isn’t a substantial figure?
“Ignoring half of your people in decision-making will be to your harm because development would be slow.”
“What it signifies is that you have decided not to move forward with this nation,” Awosika said.
